Broadoaks School offers students opportunities to continue their educational enrichment after school, as well as options for care before and after the school day.
Before & After School Programs
The Broadoaks School provides working families with safe, educational, and flexible surround care options that allow children to thrive beyond the bell.
Preschool Surround Care
Offered in the morning from 8:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.
Kindergarten through 8th Grade Surround Care
Morning care for K-8 is available from 7:15 a.m. to 8:50 a.m.
Afternoon care varies by grade
Kindergarten 2:45 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
First and Second Grades 2:55 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Third and Fourth Grades 3:05 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Fifth Grade 3:15 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Grades 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

After School Enrichment
Broadoaks believes that learning and exploration occur always, and the After School Enrichment program gives children an opportunity to experience the Broadoaks education beyond the end of the school day.
A rich and diverse selection of courses, taught by Broadoaks teachers, Whittier College faculty, or trusted organizations, are offered each trimester during the school year. Each course begins after the end of the school day one day per week and lasts for one hour.
Class offerings are published at the beginning of the school year, in the winter, and in the spring. Classes take place in-person on the elementary campus. A single class runs during one of the trimester terms for seven to eight sessions (see schedule below).
Course fee: $350
A course must meet minimal enrollment of six children. To register your child for a course, use this form. Registration closes September 2 at 5 p.m.

Clay & Craft Arts
Dive into the creative world of clay with Broadoaks Arts and Language teacher Sophia Zhang! In this hands-on course, children will explore a variety of clay techniques and create unique, personal art pieces. K – 4th grades only.
Slime, Goop, & More!
Come create all kinds of “gloop” with Broadoaks teacher Jessica Valencia! You will have the chance to make different types of slime, salt dough, and play dough. For each session or the following, children will leave with their personal creations. In this course, children will have many chances to explore and experiment with different chemical reactions and mixtures of ingredients. K-4th grades only.
Let’s Paint!
Broadoaks Teacher Marisol Mendoza will be guiding students to explore their creativity and personal expression through painting. Students will be able to learn about and experiment with nature painting, self-portraiture, tools and techniques of painting. 4th through 8th grades only.

Let’s Get Crafty
Long-term employee of Whittier College and former Broadoaks’ grandparent will share her love of crafting with Broadoaks children. K – 4th grades only.
Fun with Music
Curious about different instruments and how to play them? Come join Rolando Fuentes, Whittier College staff and a long-term musician, and learn all about music and the different types of instruments that make the music we love. Students will make their own instruments to take home. K – 4th grades only.
You’ve got the Music in You
Do you enjoy singing? Come join Broadoaks teacher Ashley de la Vara to learn about singing all kinds of genres of music. Each week students will learn new songs and decide which ones they would like to practice and perform the following week. By the end of the course, children will perform as a group and individually for their families and friends! 7th & 8th grades only.

Little Bakers’ Adventures
Whisking up Fun! Join Broadoaks teacher Christine Ybarra and create baking masterpieces. Young chefs will learn the basics of baking, cutting, mixing and measuring through fun hands-on activities. Students will make mouth-watering goodies while unleashing their creativity. K – 4th grades only.
Painting Arts & Crafts
Engage in free expression with painting and crafting special projects each session. Children will have fun exploring their creativity through painting and drawing in a relaxed atmosphere. Taught by Whittier College employee and painting and drawing aficionado Vanessa Gonzalez. K – 4th grades only.
Philosophy: Deep Questions
Why am I me and not someone else?’ ‘How do I know other people see green the same way I do?’ ‘What makes something right?’ Join Whittier College faculty member and former Broadoaks parent Paul Kjellberg to explore these questions and more! There’s no agenda just exploration. 7th – 8th grades only.

Pixar Shorts
Come dive into the wonderful world of Pixar short films to discover important lessons about kindness, friendship, and bravery. Each week, we’ll watch a different Pixar short film and talk about the special messages the characters teach us. After exploring these fun stories, students will get creative by inventing their own characters and writing their own stories! This class encourages imagination, teamwork, and problem-solving while helping students understand valuable life lessons. Friday Classes

Play with Dirt!
Join Whittier College Environmental Scientist Faculty Cinzia Fissore to learn about soil in a playful way, through hands-on activities, mostly held outdoors, aimed at encouraging kids to appreciate the ecological value of soils. Emphasis will be given to bugs, worms, and microbes that populate soils and to the relationships between soil, plants, and water. K – 4th grades only
