The Donors’ Identity Revealed

WHITTIER, Calif. (November 6, 2015) — Screen Shot 2016-02-19 at 1.55.07 PMOn November 6, preschoolers and their families, Broadoaks and Whittier College faculty, along with the Board of Trustees, gathered to celebrate the newly renovated preschool play yard—“The Broadoaks Play Place” – and to dedicate the space to the previously anonymous donors, Dr. Maggie Koong and her husband, Terry Ng, whose generous gift made the playground project possible. Terry Ng is an exceptionally gifted business person who continues to excel as an investment banker in global settings. Dr. Koong is one of Broadoaks’s long-standing admirers, having first visited the school in the late 1980s after she heard about the lab school at an international conference. She received Whittier College’s highest honor, an honorary doctorate, in 2014 in recognition of her tireless advocacy for the world’s children, especially those who are most vulnerable. She has since become a Whittier College Trustee. Dr. Koong is CEO of the Victoria Education Organization, with extraordinary private schools in Hong Kong and the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Dr. Koong is president of OMEP, the World Organization for Early Childhood Education, and one of the organization’s seven representatives to the UN.

Dr. Koong and Mr. Ng have already pledged another generous donation for 2016 to renovate the Bewley Room yard and transform the side and front yards of the preschool building into more child-friendly play spaces. Thank you, Maggie and Terry, for your support and for making a difference in the lives of our students as they laugh, sing, play, and learn in the new outdoor spaces!
