WHITTIER, Calif. (March 23, 2016) — On March 23, the Whittier College Office of Advancement held a one-day fundraising challenge called “The Big Poet Give.” As a reward for making a gift on this day, alumni, parents, and friends of the College received a music video parody featuring Johnny Poet, Whittier faculty (including Dr. Wagner!), staff, and students dancing (sort of) the Nae Nae. The College also invited Broadoaks students in 5th-8th grades to be a part of the video. You can watch it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vN2kQ9RC-hI.
The BIG POET GIVE was a HUGE success. Whittier College reached the original goal of 500 donors and then the stretch goal of 1,000 donors. Donor participation earned $75,000 in challenge funds from the College’s Board of Trustees, resulting in a Big Poet Give total of $163,000 for students. Importantly, Broadoaks faculty and staff also met our participation goal. Our participation earned an additional $1,000 challenge specifically for Broadoaks!
