WHITTIER, Calif. (November 15, 2016) — On November 7, fourth- and fifth-grade families participated in another fabulous Science Night organized by Whittier College education professor, Dr. Lauren Swanson, and her graduate students in Methods of Teaching Elementary Science and Mathematics. This year’s event included stations focused on building cars, boats, hovercrafts, and structures to withstand earthquakes; exploring the five senses; chemistry and more! Each activity was both engaging (for students and their parents!) and scientifically meaningful. Especially impressive were the conversations with the students that moved beyond simply having fun and being amazed toward thinking more deeply about the scientific principles and concepts at the heart of the activities. A special thanks to Dr. Swanson and her students for providing this wonderful opportunity for Broadoaks.
